Everyman Cinema App

Designing and building the first iteration of the Everyman app that enhances the cinema experience and adds value for their 3 million customers across the UK.

Supporting the Everyman cinema growth strategy

Everyman opened 7 new venues between 2018 and 2020 across the UK and welcomed over 3 million customers through their doors. The release of the app in 2019 supported their strategy to increase in admissions and spend in venue on food and beverages. The App had 50,000 downloads in the first 3 months on the App Store.

Design development

Wireframes and rapid prototypes were used to review designs with App team. Keynote was used to quickly prototype app animations and get quick feedback before developing into detailed designs. Design documentation was key to the project to ensure one source of truth across the team.

User interface design

A bold, clear and modern visual language supported the user interface.

Creating a dark mode for in venue, to reduce brightness while watching a movie.

Final designs including movie details page, booking flow and in venue features.

 

Design system

The ‘EVM’ design system was created to increase efficiencies through the design, test, iterate and build process.

An atomic design approach was used to build the user interface.

Building blocks were used to create components such as the ‘Movie Card’.

 

Information architecture

The structure of the app was mapped out to understand how the in venue features would link to between Customer App and the Staff App.

IMPACT

Post app launch annual admissions increased to 3.2 million (+17%) and increase in venue food and beverage sales to £7.89 per head (+13%). Membership income increased from £1.2 million to £4.45 million.
